His responsibilities included purchasing of NWA’s global jet fuel term contract requirements exceeding two billion dollars , hedging and risk management, inventory management at 135 airport locations worldwide, quality control, facility design and management, and into plane contracting. He was active in representing NWA at a number of Fuel Consortiums nationwide.

Tom Harris

Tom represented NWA with the Air Transport Association of America (ATA) and participated in developing Industry Standards for Jet Fuel Quality at Airports, commonly referred to as ATA Specification No 103, which was later adopted internationally. He represented the ATA at the Department of Defense on various programs including the integration from JP4 and JP5 fuel into JP8 fuel prior to the Persian Gulf War. Tom spoke at a number of seminars on principles of hedging for the airline industry and developed a logistics group to ship jet fuel on common carrier pipelines, barges, cargo ships and trucks. He contracted long term terminal storage for self supply at NWA’s Hub locations in MSP, DTW and MEM and initiated the design and construction of airport storage, pipelines and filtration systems. Upon NWA going private, Tom accepted an executive compensation package and pursued an entrepreneurial drive.

Following his career in the airline industry, Tom was a 50% equity partner and President at Jet Star, Inc. in Indianapolis which he developed from a small unknown carrier into the largest aviation transport company in America over a period of nine years from 1991 to 1999. During his tenure and direction Jet Star was recognized by CCJ Magazine as being the fastest growing tanker company in America in 1994, 1995 and 1996. Tom pioneered computerized tracking and automated systems while President and initiated state of the art communication for dispatchers and employees. Tom sold his equity interest in Jet Star and formed two companies, Stardust Transportation, LLC and US Trades, LLC.

US Trades provides skilled labor to mechanical and electrical contractors nationwide and in the Caribbean. Stardust Transportation provides delivery of aviation fuel, ethanol, gasoline, and diesel fuel. Both US Trades and Stardust Transportation have been recognized by Inc Magazine as being among the fastest growing private companies in America for three concurrent years, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
